So here I was browsing through craiglist when a particular ad drew my attention. The title was all it took really which is a confirmation of everything they tell you at editing schools: “Are you broke like everyone else and in need of shelter? If you are an open-minded, imaginative woman, you will also have the opportunity to earn lucrative commissions doing telephone sex therapy with our company.”

Now I challenge anyone, in today’s economy not to be drawn to such a cry, even for those of us lucky enough to be able to pay our bills. How money around us would respond to this title with a resounding yes? And so I proceeded to read further..

Turns out the job offer was a barter exchange proposal: “you work for me and I’ll feed you” albeit dressed in the appropriate marketing manner. Here is part of the ad:

“Live-In Editorial Assistant (Downtown LA)

Live-In Editorial Assistant wanted for internationally renowned media sexologist and institute director, recently featured on Nightline, as well as on HBO, Playboy, WeTV and other media. You will be writing and editing website and advertising copy as well as answering the phone, doing some online content management, organizing and scheduling.

In exchange for your part-time work, we will give you room and board in the Institute’s fabulous spacious loft, including your own private room, DSL, phone, maid service, tech support, bar and kitchen access, some gourmet home-cooked meals, recording studio, erotic art gallery, awesome eclectic ambiance, 17,000 square feet of space to work and play in (basically, $2000/month of room, board & amenities) with an exciting, vibrant, socialist-style, capitalist-oriented community of artists, technologists and sex therapists.”

The ad didn’t say anything about living in partners, children, pets or any of the usual companions one might like to surround oneself in life and I suppose these considerations were left in the dark for a purpose (or not.)

One think I like though about the whole think is the instant promotion I got: I have been a phone sex operator all these years! No sir! I have been an expert telephone sex therapist who’s role is to explore with my callers (can a phone sex therapist call her callers patients?) their sexuallity with the aim of making them reach the next level in satisfaction!

Sounds good doesn’t it? Don’t call me anymore in order to come like a stallion on heat with thoughts firmly planted in your head (and in pussy/ass/mouth) of fucking me silly but rather wih a view to seek some much needed counseling in all matters related to your sexuality.
